anyone fly on JAL? can i carry on a duffel (baggage) and a backpack (personal belonging)?

The JAL site states:
“Each passenger is permitted one piece of carry-on baggage.
A passenger may carry on board one personal belonging, such as a shopping bag or handbag, and one baggage satisfying the conditions below. When travelling on a codeshare flight the operating carrier’s baggage policy applies.”

It depends on the size of your duffel bag and your backpack. Your duffel cannot be more than 45 lineal inches (h+w+l) and 22 lbs.. Your backpack may be too large to count as your personal belonging depending on it’s size, normally the personal belonging is a laptop bag, handbag, camera bag etc..
